Progressive Web App Development

A progressive web app is a website that installs to the home screen, loads fast on slow networks and keeps working offline, without going through an app store. ConvertriX builds PWAs for businesses that want app-like reach from a shared link, and we are upfront about where a PWA falls short, especially on iPhones.

Overview

About our progressive web apps service

Many customers will not download an app for a business they use occasionally. Phone storage is tight on budget Android handsets, store downloads take time on a weak connection, and every extra step loses people. A PWA removes that barrier. Someone taps a link from WhatsApp, Instagram or a Google search result, the experience opens instantly, and they can add it to their home screen in one tap. Updates go live the moment you deploy, with no store review and no waiting for users to update.

Speed and offline behaviour are what separate a real PWA from a mobile website with an icon. We use a service worker to cache the app shell and key data, so repeat visits load almost immediately and core screens still open when the network drops. Forms and orders can be saved locally and sent when the connection returns. We build on Next.js or a similar framework, keep JavaScript bundles small and test on mid-range Android phones over throttled 4G, because that is what a large share of Indian users actually experience.

PWAs have real limits, and we explain them before you commit. On Android, Chrome supports installation prompts, push notifications and background sync well. On iPhone, web push only works after the user adds the app to the home screen, there is no automatic install prompt, background sync is not supported and Safari may clear stored data for sites that are not used regularly. Access to Bluetooth, NFC and some device sensors is also limited. If your use case needs those features, a Flutter or native app is the better choice, and we will say so.

What's included

Everything in scope, written down

  • PWA suitability assessment

A short review of your features against browser support on Android and iOS, so you know upfront what a PWA can and cannot do for you.

  • Mobile-first UI design

Figma designs built for thumbs and small screens, with app-style navigation and layouts that also work on desktop.

  • Installable web app

A web app manifest, icons and splash screens, plus a custom install prompt on Android and clear add-to-home-screen guidance on iPhone.

  • Service worker and offline mode

Caching strategies for the app shell, pages and data, with an offline fallback and queued actions that sync when the network returns.

  • Web push notifications

Push through the Web Push API or Firebase Cloud Messaging, with permission requests timed so users are not asked on the first visit.

  • UPI and online payments

Razorpay or Cashfree checkout with UPI intent on mobile, verified on the server before an order is confirmed.

  • Performance and SEO

Core Web Vitals tuning, server rendering for indexable pages and structured data, so the PWA can rank in search as well as install.

Process

How the project runs

  1. 1

    Assess fit

We check your required features against PWA support on Android and iOS and confirm a PWA is the right format before design starts.

  2. 2

    Design and prototype

Key flows are designed mobile-first in Figma and tested as a prototype on both an Android phone and an iPhone.

  3. 3

    Build in sprints

Development in two-week sprints on a staging URL you can open on any phone, with offline and install behaviour built in from the start.

  4. 4

    Performance and offline testing

Lighthouse audits, throttled network tests, offline checks and install testing across Chrome, Samsung Internet and Safari.

  5. 5

    Launch and measure

Deployment to your hosting, analytics for installs and engagement, and monitoring of Core Web Vitals once real traffic arrives.

Pricing

How this is priced

PWAs are quoted per project. Cost depends mainly on the number of screens and user roles, how much needs to work offline, whether push notifications and payments are included, integrations with your existing systems, and backend or admin panel work. A PWA usually costs less than building separate Android and iOS apps because there is one codebase and no store process. After a scoping call we send a fixed-scope quote broken into phases.

FAQ

Progressive Web Apps: common questions

Can a PWA replace a native mobile app?

It can for many content, catalogue, booking and ordering use cases, especially where most users are on Android. It is a weaker fit if you rely on iPhone push notifications reaching every user, background location, Bluetooth or NFC, or a presence in the app stores. We look at your features and audience and tell you plainly whether a PWA, a cross-platform app or both makes sense.

Do PWAs work on iPhone?

Yes, but with limits. iPhone users can open the PWA in Safari and add it to their home screen, where it runs full-screen like an app. Push notifications work only after it has been added to the home screen, there is no automatic install prompt, and background sync is not available. We design around these limits and show iPhone users simple instructions for installing the app.

Can a PWA be listed on the Google Play Store?

Yes. An Android PWA can be wrapped as a Trusted Web Activity and published on Google Play, which gives you a store listing and discoverability while the content still comes from your website. Apple's App Store does not accept apps that are only a wrapped website, so an iOS store presence needs a native or cross-platform app with genuine app functionality.

Is a PWA good for SEO?

Yes, a well-built PWA is a website, so its pages can be crawled, indexed and ranked like any other. We use server rendering for public pages, clean URLs, metadata and structured data, and keep Core Web Vitals in good shape. That gives you search traffic and an installable app experience from the same product, which a store-only app cannot do.
